Joris Strouken's work features elements taken from many different sources. Some come directly from his personal surroundings, others from (childhood) fascinations or (art) history. Educated as a sculptor, Strouken seeks to investigate paintings as objects rather than images. He frequently works with found cloths as canvas, and is continuously looking for alternative ways to frame and hang his works. This amounts into layered objects that have a more pronounced spatial appearance, adding context and sculptural elements to his works.
Joris Strouken (1992, NL) lives and works in Voorschoten (NL), and graduated from AKI ArtEZ, Enschede in 2017. After his graduation, Strouken was selected for Ron Mandos' Best of Graduates, where his work was awarded the Best of Graduates Public Award. Strouken's work, previously shown by Young Blood/Show Off at Art Rotterdam 2018, is at home in various renowned private collections and in corporate collections such as Delta Lloyd and Sanquin, among others.
